Carlisle City's history-making FA Vase run came to an end at the hands of Charnock Richard.

City went down to a 4-0 defeat in their rearranged third round tie.

Jim Nichols' side had reached that stage of the competition for the first time and had designs on going further.

But a ruthless visiting side dashed their hopes at the Three Rivers Health & Safety Consultancy Stadium.

Rustam Stepans hit a hat-trick for Charnock with Jacob Ridings also on target, Carlisle City unable to find a reply.

Stepans opened the scoring after just three minutes and added another six minutes later.

Jordan Holt, Jordan Palmer and Sam Atkinson were among the players to threaten for City as they looked for a way back.

But the goal was elusive for Nichols' men as Ridings struck in the 83rd minute before Stepans completed his treble with a deflected attempt in the 85th minute.

Charnock sealed a fourth round trip to Emley with City left to focus on their Northern League Division One campaign.

In that division, meanwhile, Penrith enjoyed a stunning 12-0 victory over Tow Law Town.

Darren Edmondson's side ran riot at the Leo Group Stadium.

They were 4-0 ahead at the break then added eight more against their beleaguered visitors.

Luke Hunter completed a hat-trick with Kingsley Grandison and Conor Hammell getting two apiece.

Also on target for the Bonny Blues were Luke Brown, DJ Taylor, Andy Murray-Jones and Connor Shields with a Robbie Shields own-goal also benefiting the hosts.

Penrith are 16th in the table after three straight league wins which have brought 21 goals.

In the Northern Premier League Premier Division, meanwhile, there was an eventful return to home action for Workington Reds.

Danny Grainger's side fought back twice to draw 2-2 with Morpeth Town while three Reds men were sent off in the west Cumbrians' first game at Borough Park for seven weeks.

Ex-Carlisle United youth striker Nic Bollado shot Morpeth ahead early on before David Symington levelled early in the second half.

Sam Hodgson quickly put the visitors back in front but Finlay Wallbank struck a second Reds leveller.

Home defender Joe Bunney was sent off for a second bookable offence six minutes from time before Symington and manager Grainger also saw red as tempers frayed late on.

Reds moved up a place to 14th in the table ahead of Tuesday's home clash with Worksop Town.
