Carlisle City will tomorrow aim to reach the FA Vase fourth round at the second attempt.

Jim Nichols’s side host Charnock Richard a week after the original scheduled game fell victim to the freezing weather.

City have already reached the third round for the first time in their history and will now bid to break further ground in the famous non-league competition (Three Rivers Health & Safety Consultancy Stadium, 3pm).

Should Nichols’ Northern League Division One club get through against their North West Counties Premier Division opponents tomorrow, they will face an away tie in the last 32 against either Emley or West Didsbury & Chorlton.

City are hoping for a good crowd for the big game and are hoping any Carlisle United fans not travelling to Blackpool to watch the Blues will head to Gillford Park to cheer on Nichols' men.

The Cumbrian side have enjoyed a solid season so far, sitting tenth in the Northern League Division One table with games in hand on several sides above them.

They also impressed in the Fred Conway Cumberland Cup first round, taking a Carlisle United side full of first-team pros to penalties before narrowly losing out.

Nichols, speaking to the News & Star last week, said his side would give it their very best shot against a useful Charnock side.

“We’ve had them watched, know what they’re about and it’s a case of roll on Saturday and see how it pans out," he said.

“Charnock are in a bit of a false position in the league – they’ve played lot less games than teams around them.

“They’ve got some real threats in attacking areas, and at the back they’re not conceding huge amounts.

“We’ll take one game at a time and not think too far ahead – if you do that you let yourself down. We know on any day we can beat anyone and if we’re not at it we can get beaten."

Should City win on Saturday, it will earn them £1,125 in prize money, while defeat would see them awarded £300.

City's fellow Northern League Division One side Penrith are back in action at home this weekend.

Darren Edmondson's men are at home to Tow Law Town.

The Bonny Blues, who are 16th, will be seeking to build on a good 2-0 win over Heaton Stannington last time out.

Higher up the non-league pyramid, meanwhile, Workington Reds finally return home for the first time in seven weeks.

Danny Grainger's side, whose clash with Hyde United last weekend was postponed, take on Morpeth Town at Borough Park.

Grainger's men are in good scoring form with 11 goals in their last four games.

They sit 15th in the Northern Premier League Premier Division table as they take on a 13th-placed Morpeth Town side who could include former Carlisle United players Liam Noble and Nic Bollado.
