A SIXTY-three-year-old Carlisle man has appeared before magistrates to face multiple child sex abuse allegations.

Brian Marsden told the city’s Rickergate court he wishes to plead not guilty to the seven historic allegations he is charged with, relating to three alleged female victims, all aged under 14.

Prosecutor Peter Bardsley said the case against the defendant, of Stonegarth, Morton, should be sent to the city’s crown court.

The allegations include indecent assaults and also gross indecency.

After hearing representations from Mr Bardsley for the prosecution and from defence lawyer Lauren Heasley, magistrates sent the case to Carlisle Crown Court for a hearing on January 2.

The defendant was granted unconditional bail until that day, when the case will be considered.
