AS winter sets in, certain households in Cumbria are eligible for cold weather payments.

The Department of Work and Pension (DWP) payments of £25 are issued when temperatures are set to fall below freezing for seven consecutive days.

You’ll get £25 for each 7-day period of very cold weather between November 1 and March 31, 2024.

The reminder follows as the UKHSA issues yellow and amber cold-health alerts for the health sector covering northern regions of England through until December 5.

To qualify for cold weather payments, you must be receiving one of the following benefits:

  • Pension Credit
  • Income Support
  • income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
  • income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • Universal Credit
  • Support for Mortgage Interest

A report from The Mirror indicates that 280 cold weather payments are being issued across the UK.

Postcodes in Carlisle, Brampton, Wetheral, Keswick, Windermere and Kendal are eligible for the payment.
