Carlisle United fans have been reacting in their droves to the huge news of the Piatak takeover.

Here's a selection of comments supporters gave to the News & Star via social media platform X and our Facebook group.

Absolutely made up, hopefully Simmo and can in the short term get us to safety, then we can move forward with a new exciting future. Massive welcome to the Piataks and thanks to the departing board for the good they've done over the years. (@Marzy_1)

Emotional! It’s been a rollercoaster ride following CUFC over the years, but I’m optimistic about the future and hope that the good days outnumber the bad - if there’s a fanbase that deserves it, it’s ours! A huge welcome to Cumbria to the Piatak family, let’s Own the North! (@cufcdeano)

Surreal times, we've waited so long for this level of optimism and excitement. (@RyCUFC)

Probably the most exciting time to be a Carlisle fan. Going to be good times around the corner, got the right manager in the dugout and now hopefully the right owners off the pitch for the club to reach its full potential (@Matthew_2693)

I was involved in international businesses for >35 years at very senior levels. Never saw a pitch as impressive as that given by the family at the Halston. I am very confident we now have great owners. Prepared for ups and downs of course but this is the long game. (@NotInSeddon)

It’s finally done and unlike the previous takeover opportunities the Piataks feel like they are the right ones. Transparency from the first opportunity, no debt risk to the club. Future is bright. Thanks to everyone who got us here. (@parkinsonross)

Yet one more thing to thank Simmo for. Don't think we'd have been a fraction as attractive a club to the Piataks on our beam-ends at the bottom of the National League. (@JHallHDI)

It is simply beyond exciting! Time for a bright blue future. Regardless of investment it is time for new ideas and energy. The Piataks are strong in family values and that will weave beautifully into our community and club. I am tearful and feel the only response is PEEVE (@Bluebolero)

Ecstatic. Thanks to the fantastic Piataks and all involved and, as has been pointed out, we should remember none of this would have happened if Simmo had not saved the club in 2022. Without him we’d probably be in Conference North by now. Hopefully we can stay up and go from there (@Blencath007)

I’ve supported my home town club from the age of 9, when I learned we topped Division 1 five years previously. I have always believed we have the potential to be a big club, and I’m delighted a terrific family with real vision think we can too. This is a truly great day for #CUFC (@angloscot188)

We’re over the moon to have them, but I’m mindful that they’ll want to make changes. No ownership should get a free ride, and we should challenge them just as we did our outgoing owners. The family’s engagement with supporters has been fantastic so far, so long may that continue. (@lewisrids3)

A new dawn but all that matters is we stay in League One. That’s the first and biggest challenge. Optimism doesn’t last long. The proof will come in May. But even then, it may be a step back has to come before the big step forward (@markcduffell)

Christmas comes early, our hardcore support deserves this, good luck @CastleSportsGrp it’s going be very enjoyable (@keithelliott94)

We deserve this & I'm so excited it's finally gone through. Whoop whoop! (@WinderAsInMere)

Trusting they will stick to their word and take the club to the next level. (@Alan_Matthews)

We need to temper our excitement somewhat with the cool reality of battling for League One survival. However, I do believe that we need to bookmark this as the turning point when we're playing in Europe six years from now. (@1StevieKilner)

Hopefully the start of a whole new era, a great opportunity to push on and achieve. Peeve time now. (@krisfoster)

Fantastic news! Hopefully just in time to save the season too. Can we please bin this “own the north” catchphrase tho? It’s an absolute shan (@PeteMcCormick6)

Relieved. The Piataks have got a big job on their hands but they have got a passionate fanbase behind them, desperate for them to succeed. (@ticketaddict)

A defining moment in history! The start of a very exciting time at Carlisle United (@CU04_YOUTUBE)

Never thought this day would come but thankfully it has, and here's to the future. C'mon you Blues (@ericgreen866)

It’s a marathon not a sprint. Let’s get it started (@Davvytommo)

Good times ahead! The giant is awakened! (@RannonWalker)

Excited and intrigued by what’s to come. (@HREwbank)

Club deserves it, lord knows us fans do. Optimistic for stability with sustainable success. Piataks very likeable. (@whyellokayleigh)

Absolutely ecstatic. Not only is this great news for the club but for the city and surrounding areas. When they mentioned own the north just think on how big that statement actually is!!! (@tommo0169)

Exciting times; I hope we can do the business in January. Let leave who don’t want to be here. And have a team that can kick on next year hopefully a team still in League One to push for a more optimistic push for promotion next season. We’re owed a dream of success I reckon. (@CameronEllis_)

Excellent, exciting, up there with the day Simmo came back and I think if it wasn't for him this wouldn't be happening, onwards and upwards..... Up the Blues (@cufccraig1983)

I’ll be celebrating the brilliant news by having a cheeky midweek peeve (@NavyDave94)

Need half a dozen new players straight away (@DavidJMitch)

If we're not chanting DE-FENCE and OF-FENCE at every opportunity on Saturday, I for one will be sorely disappointed (@Blue_Bag)

Pub (@tomjardine_)

This is a great day for Carlisle fans, wishing a rich owner would come and buy my club and it has happened so let's hope its good times ahead of us - so let's get thousands at Brunton on Saturday and let's welcome our new owners the Piatak family (@cufcbrian1965)

Excellent news!! The possibilities are endless. A new era upon on us and with Simmo at the wheel, the only way is up the Blues!! (@mike_holmes83)

Just watch us go!!! With the right people, investment, Simmo and of course our magnificent fans we can emulate Brighton, Bournemouth, Huddersfield, Swansea, Brentford and get back to the top league. Why not? (@LucasFranki)

We'll see. Actions over words (@RegReagan2)

I know all the excitement about the takeover is based on nothing but a smart power-point presentation and pure, unadulterated hope - but I don't care......Come on you Yankee Blues!!!! (@CraigTheReiver)

I might go back now... (@muzzer_daftbat)

Peeve. Simple as that. (@kai_thompson9)

Own the north. Excited. Dancing in the streets as the songs goes. Dancing to Proud Mary. Keep rolling... (@Olgathefox21)

The ladies serving in Fontana’s chippy asked me if I’m ok, why I’m crying #emotional (@AyeCumbrian)

A massive thank you to the departing owners who have done the best they can with what they had, forever grateful. Massive welcome to our new owners we are all looking forward to a bright future. Up The Blues! Be Just & Fear Not! (Luke John Addy)

At last someone that can see the potential in the club and it looks like the Piataks are the perfect fit for Carlisle. It shouldn’t need a huge amount of investment to make us far more competitive in League One and who knows how far after that (Ian Milburn)

This is the news that many Carlisle United supporters have been waiting for. The dawn of the next chapter in our proud history. Now let's get up the League One table. Thank you to the Piatak family. (Thomas Coleman)

I am very optimistic for Carlisle United after today's news. The new custodians seem really genuine and have some fantastic plans. Hope the fans and stayaway fans back them and take Carlisle United to new heights. COYB. (Colin Peachey)

Finally a silver lining, this club deserves some proper investment and I'm delighted this has gotten over the line at last. Here's to a bright future for the Cumbrians! (Steve Akitt)

I'm running out of 'greatest days of my life' to say about this football club. Every single time you think it couldn't get any better, it does and the future isn't just bright, it's blue and white (with a hint of red ) up the Yankee blues (Josh Trafford)

Elated. Grateful for the efforts of Jenkins and co. their efforts in the past years can’t be overstated but very excited for the next chapter. OWN THE NORTH. (Will Egglestone)

Best news in a long long time . With Simmo at the top and the Piatak family supporting him the future looks promising (Chris Wright)

Exciting times ahead for us Carlisle fans. In the space of 2 days the takeover is complete AND I finally get a fruit salad away shirt! What a time to be a blue! (Chris Gibson)

Wonderful news, congratulations to the Piatak family for taking on the pride of the north, Carlisle United, here's to every success in the venture to take us up to a new level. Let us not forget Misters Jenkins, Nixon, Clark and Pattison for their work in ensuring we still have this great club in our city, thank you (Kevin McGeorge)

Story brought temporary stability and a little sniff of what could be. This feels like the real deal and for most of us a chance at something special for the first time! Fingers crossed we aren’t wondering what went wrong in 10 years time. UP THE BLUES! (Andrew Graham)

Great news. Just what the club needs. A massive thanks to all those who have worked hard to keep the club in a sound state over the last few years. Hopefully can now kick on driven by enthusiasm and a well managed financial backing. (David Dennison)

Thank-you Andrew for what you have done for the club over 60 years, but now its time to move the club to a new level never having to worry about losing our league status again, Simmo and Abbott now need to start making serious enquiries to other clubs in time for the January window.. (Mark Fawcett)

The news we've waited years for. Hopefully Simmo will now get some real backing and we can take off as a club. (David McNay)

Proud to be Cumbrian tonight, let’s hope we can get the players in to survive the threat of relegation. (Paul Wharton)

Thankyou for putting your trust in our amazing unique football club. Been a supporter since the 60s and we know how hard Andrew Jenkins has worked to keep our club alive thankyou. Now we are moving into an exciting new adventure. Come on people of Carlisle let's embrace it and get behind our local team. The only way is up, COYBs (Paul Barrett)

Who would have ever believed promotion and new ownership in the same year, onwards and upwards for the super blues (Craig Mattinson)

I am so proud to be a Carlisle fan and I am excited about the future. Can’t wait for a celebratory peeve at the Charlton game! (Matt Spooner)

Looking forward to a revamped 20k capacity stadium at Brunton Park with the Warwick Road End being the biggest single standing terrace in the country. A new state of the art training complex to be the envy of the rest. Lots of community schemes and involvement. A great relationship with the council who help make this all happen and finally understand that CUFC are the hub of the whole county. Exciting club initiatives and a brilliant match day experience for all. Brilliant facilities for the disabled. Affordable ticket prices for all with incentives to buy a season ticket. Great hospitality facilities and a vibrant club shop. Fabulous communication between club and fans. And last but by no means least, a great, exciting team under Simmo as we rise through the leagues and Own the North. (Peter Scholes)

Hope Andrew Jenkins can stick around and use his experience and knowledge of the club to help out the new owners whilst they find their feet. (Stephen Mccall)

Absolutely buzzing. Looking forward to my 230 mile round trip on Saturday and 3 points. An atmosphere like Bradford game be just the job (Paul Bradley)

Fantastic news! Well done to Simmo and the players, their on field success gave the fans belief, that belief brought people back in their droves and that atmosphere in Brunton Park and at Wembley hooked the Piataks! No risk involved for me as under the old ownership model and the Purepay debt we would have been in trouble within say 5 years in spite of on field success. (Mark Whitfield)

The supporters are behind you, looking forward to a bright future. (Kenny Milburn)

Great news and a new era for the younger fans as well. If it wasn't for A Jenkins where would the club be? Now on to new ownership (Dean Dunn)

I think the true testament is not that we have "new owners" but that we have a new custodian that understands and wants to love our CUFC for everything it is and will truly end up loving it, once they experience it. "Own the North" (Ryan Deugo)

Great day for the club, The future is looking bright. Thank you to outgoing board for keeping the club going through some difficult times (Ian Coupe)

Tremendous news! We would have eventually sank into obscurity with the current ambition free board (Paul James)

If they stick to what they've been saying over the past months. The future is certainly bright, just need to stay in League 1! (Byron Coomber)

Great news, onward and upward. (Paul Hal Irving)

The stayaways can return to support the club now (Malcolm Mason)

Thank you Andrew Jenkins (Stan Sanczuk)

Onwards and upwards to good times. (For a change) (Benn Sanderson)

The news I’ve been waiting for, a start of a new era, hopefully we can step out of the dark clouds that have been above us for years. I hope Mr Jenkins is happy he’s the only one out of them all that kept us afloat, I will always respect him for that, but the other hangers on - ta ta from me is a polite way. Roll on a new chapter in our historic football club (Krystle Cufc Gale)
