For today's Nostalgia edition we will be taking a trip back through time looking at Burgh By Sands.

We've searched our archives to show you what life was like in years gone by in the historic Cumberland village.

The village lies on the Solway coast area of outstanding natural beauty, close to Carlisle.

Hadrian's Wall, a historic Roman structure that stretches Bowness on Solway in Cumbria to Wallsend on Tyne in the north east, passes through the village.

St Michael's Church was built in the 12th century within the Roman fort on Hadrian's Wall as is thought to occupy the site of the grannary.

The material used to build the ancient church are thought to come from the wall or the fort itself.

At the end of the River Eden at the Solway Firth is a monument marking the death site of Edward I, he died on the Solway as he was returning from a final assault against Scotland.

Nowadays the village has a primary school, pub and post office and it was on the Carlisle Navigation canal from 1823 to 1853, after this it was served by the Port Carlisle Railway.

These photos show life in the village over the past decade, we hope that you enjoy this trip back in time with us.

We can see the old post office, a thatcher at work on a cottage, the cast of an Alice in Wonderland pantomime, a youth club concert and cup winners from the badminton club.

Other photos show people shopping at a Christmas Fair, the YFC group cleaning a monument, the cast members of a nativity play at the church and children enjoying a strawberry fair.
