WORKINGTON Town Council have installed a 'letters to heaven' post box at Vulcan Park for messages to lost loved ones.

The white letter box is placed thoughtfully by the reflection garden in the park, and it allows  people to write letters, cards, and messages to those they have lost, and post them to heaven.

The council state that the post box is available to anyone who feels they may benefit from it. Each letter or card that is placed into the post box is treated with the utmost respect and confidentiality.

Once posted, all the cards or letters are then to be stored securely and are never opened or read. The post box is not owned or serviced by Royal Mail, so no address or stamp is needed.

Workington Town Council said: "We hope that visiting and posting a letter to your loved one will bring you comfort each time you visit."

"We understand that coming to terms with loss is a personal journey; one that consists of dealing with a series of milestones. We hope that the post box will be one of them."
