PLANS have been submitted for a new sports hall and changing facilities for a secondary school in Carlisle

Austin Friars School has submitted a proposal for the new sports facility on their grounds at Etterby Scaur.

The site currently occupies a sports field.

Plans were submitted to Cumberland Council on November 7.

The private school was first established in 1951 by the friars of the Order of St Augustine and aimed at providing a boarding education for Catholic boys in Cumbria, including the city of Carlisle.

In 1986, girls were warmly received on the campus.

According to planning documents, there is no flood risk.

The design and access statement reads: "This application is about providing more beneficial facilities to the school for physical education development and learning.

"The site is in an urban area, but has good existing access.

"Careful selection of materials and assessments of energy use will enable construction of sustainable development.

"The scheme takes due account of the form and scale of adjacent buildings," it reads.
