A RIGHT-WING political party is due to host a series of meetings across Cumbria.

Reform UK, a party which was co-founded in 2018 by former UKIP leader Nigel Farage, will be holding the meetings in Alston and Penrith later this year.

The party said that these meetings will be ‘influential’ and ‘empower citizens and effect meaningful change’ in politics.

The party used to be called the Brexit Party but was then renamed after Brexit happened.

The party claims to stand for reducing immigration, stopping any privatisation of the NHS, cutting VAT on domestic fuel, banning the UK from exporting its waste, and scrapping the TV license, among numerous positions, which used to include scrapping HS2.

“Reform Party UK understands the dissatisfaction that many British citizens feel towards the existing political system,” a party spokesperson said.

They continued: “Through our meetings, we aim to engage in open discussions regarding the pressing issues facing our society, using this platform to collaborate on innovative solutions that resonate with the concerns of everyday citizens.

“Our local candidate for Penrith and the Border, Matthew Moody, shares his enthusiasm for this national endeavour."

Mr Moody said: "Reform Party UK is a call to action for all those who are tired of the status quo, who want to reclaim the power and influence they deserve.

“We believe in a Britain that thrives on democratic values, integrity, and progress.

“Together, we can shape the political landscape for the betterment of all."

The party said it welcomes all people, regardless of how involved they are in politics.

Meetings are running in November and December in Alston, Penrith and Keswick.

The meeting in Alston takes place on November 8 from 6.30pm to 8.45pm at the town hall on Front Street.

The meeting in Penrith takes place on November 22, from 6.30pm to 8.45pm at Evergreen Community Hall on Bluebell Lane.

The party said it is going to be organising a December meeting in Keswick, details to be determined.
