A CUMBRIAN brewery is to get the prime ministerial treatment when one of its beers is put on at the prestigious Strangers' Bar in the heart of the Houses of Parliament.

Great Corby Brewhouse’s 3.4 per cent limited edition ale, Tizzie Whizie, is to be unveiled in parliament next week, with a delegation going down from the brewery for the grand unveiling.

The Brewhouse was founded back in 2009 and has since gone from strength to strength, with Tizzie Whizie recently honoured with a highly prestigious SIBA Gold Award.

“Tizzie Whizie has always been a favourite of mine,” said Sandra Hall, director of Great Corby Brewhouse.

“On the advice of our local MP, we wrote to the Strangers’ Bar in parliament about the beer, how it's double-hopped, and quite a long time later I got a note saying that they’d like to try it... and then it won the gold award too!

“It is a really popular beer and has a nice, unique flavour so it tastes like a stronger beer than it is but it's like a session IPA.”

The news comes at a time when many pubs and breweries are struggling during the cost-of-living crisis but Great Corby Brewhouse continues to thrive with its new apprentice, Matthew, and continued award success.

“It’s a really exciting time for us,” said Sandra.

“The brewery has been going for quite a long time with several different owners until David (current owner) took it over in 2020 just before Covid and he’s backed us in whatever we want to do.

“The news is such a great boost for us.

“The pub trade is really quite tough at the moment but we’re trying to get this out there to a wider audience.

“There’s only seven of us and everyone is really passionate and committed so it’s a great place to be.”

Tizzie Whizie and all of Great Corby Brewhouse’s ales can be purchased online through the brewery website and in pubs across Cumbria.
