AN upcoming event at Carlisle's Cakes & Ale Cafe will bring Norman Cornish's art back to life.

The event, hosted by Bookends, will feature Mike Thornton, the beloved Spennymoor artist's son-in-law, introducing his new book about Cornish: 'The Test of Time'.

Cornish's art, known for its intimate portraits and unguarded moments, wraps around the stretches of English history from the 1930s to the early 70s.

'The Test of Time', co-authored by Cornish's daughter Ann and Mike Thornton, is an outcome of five decades of conversations with Norman.

The book aligns the tales behind Cornish's pictures, and quotes from respected arts and cultural specialists, such as Michael Chaplin and Melvyn Bragg.

Tickets to the event are priced at £5, which includes a refreshing drink and a £3 off on the book on the night.

The event will be held on November 13.

Tickets are available to purchase via bookscumbria.com
