EGREMONT firefighters and supporters have completed a unique challenge and raised thousands for charity in the process.
A team made up of firefighters from the Egremont station, Sellafield Ltd’s Fire and Rescue Service and Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service’s Cadets passed a bucket of water between one another on a nine-mile route to Whitehaven.
The challenge took seven hours to complete and the total raised for The Firefighters Charity currently stands at £2,285, with donations still rolling in.
David McDowell, Egremont Watch Manager and the event organiser, said: “It was a fantastic event and all our team, especially our young Cadets, were absolutely marvellous.
“Although the weather wasn’t too kind, everyone pulled together the atmosphere was great; we had cars tooting their horns to support us and a lot of people stopping to donate to us along the route.
“I’d like to thank everyone who donated and supported us. It is greatly appreciated.”
The team travelled from Egremont, through Cleator, Cleator Moor, Hensingham and into Whitehaven town centre, stopping for collections en route at Co-Op in Cleator Moor, Spar in Hensingham and Tesco and Morrisons in Whitehaven.
The Firefighters Charity offers specialist, lifelong support for the UK’s fire service community.
