AN equestrian centre near Carlisle has announced they will be reopening after a highly contagious infection in one of their horses has been contained. 

 Greenlands Equestrian Centre near Wreay announced they will be reopening on October 14, after one of its horses tested positive for streptococcus equi, which causes the disease known as strangles at the end of September. 

In a post on social media (October 8), a spokesperson said: "Good news, everyone.

"The strangles outbreak has been contained. No further cases.

"New measures to quarantine new arrivals are in place. The livery yard has remained clear.

"The Equestrian Centre - Indoor and Outdoor will be open from Saturday, October 14. 

"We Look forward to seeing you all," they said.
