A thriving community group with more than 800 members is celebrating its 25th anniversary this weekend.
"Let's get together is the message from Cockermouth u3a," said chairman Ian Hall.
They will be staging an event - with free refreshments - on Saturday when people can drop in to learn about everything that is on offer and members can socialise.
The self-help organisation encourages members - from all over west Cumbria - to keep busy, learn new skills or pass on knowledge to others.
There are more than 40 largely member-led groups catering to a wide range of interests, including sport, craft, music and literature to name just a few; plus a monthly meeting with external speakers, to which anyone is welcome.
The charitable group, affiliated to the national u3a organisation, encourages people in their 'Third Age' and no longer in full time work, to keep mentally and physically active by engaging in activities which enthuse them.
The organisation has the strapline “learn, laugh, live”.
Ian said: "Cockermouth u3a is a wonderful way of making new friends and learning new skills at a minimal cost as nearly all interest groups are member-led. We hope lots of people will come along and meet us on Saturday."
The event will take place from 10am to noon at the United Reformed Church on Main Street.
