Cumberland Council has this week confirmed the latest news on the multi-million-pound regeneration scheme in Cumberland.
On Tuesday, October 3, the Cumberland Council executive rubberstamped a contract award to procure a project delivery team to support the delivery of Phase Two of the iEC development at Leconfield in Cleator Moor.
Leader of Cumberland Council, Cllr Mark Fryer, said:
“We have some exciting development plans underway in our Cumberland area. They will support businesses to diversify beyond the nuclear sector and grow exports to support the Cumbrian economy. With the support of partners, it will lay the foundations for change, through improvements to connectivity and, community facilities.
“The development of the iSH Enterprise Campus at Leconfield is progressing well and work is well underway on the project.”
iSH is an economic regeneration initiative led by Cumberland Council with the support of key stakeholders including the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, Sellafield Ltd, Cumbria Local Enterprise Partnership and private sector supply chain partners. The key objective is to create a diverse and sustainable economy for West Cumbria.
The former Copeland Borough Council (CBC) acquired the Leconfield Industrial Estate in 2021 to deliver the industrial Solutions Hub (iSH) mission. The iSH Enterprise Campus (iEC), a circa. £50m capital development at Leconfield, is funded by Government (DLUHC), and several other strategic partners.
The Cumberland Council Executive agreed to award the contract for Estates and Project Management Services to support the delivery of the Phase 2 development of the iSH Enterprise Campus at Leconfield Industrial Estate to Avison Young.
