A CUMBRIAN couple's favourite moments at their wedding included a dance battle between bride and groom and a rave complete with glowsticks.

Story Contracting Lives assistant site manager Andrew Mckinnel, 39, and Chloe Ransley 29, from Newtown Irthington, met in 2014 after chatting on social media but were briefly parted when Andy went to Kenya when he was in the army.

One year later, the pair reunited and became inseparable.

Longtown Medical Practice medical administrator Chloe said: "When Andy returned in 2015, we used to meet every Friday and Saturday night at one of our local pubs in Brampton.

A few years later, Andrew decided it was the right time to propose at a Grease tribute night, but it did not go to plan.

Chloe recalls: “The first attempt our good friend ruined the moment when he would not stop talking when Andrew was telling me how much he loved me, so the second time was the 'actual' proposal.

"This time was up on the Roman wall at the viewpoint looking down onto Gilsland, where we were on a walk with our kids and dog.

"When we were admiring the view and I was taking a photo, he decided to pop the question while also saying 'second time lucky'."

After the engagement announcement, the couple planned their hen and stag do with close friends and family.

Andy decided to go to Liverpool for the weekend with 18 friends, whereas Chloe had two hen dos. The first was in Newcastle, where she had an afternoon of cocktail making at Tiger Lillies followed by watching 'shows of all shows' at the Purple Peacock. The second hen do was in Benidorm.

Recalling their big day on Saturday, August 12, Chloe said: "We were thirty minutes late on the way to the church, but I wanted to make sure we stopped by my grandmother's as due to her ill health, she was unable to attend the wedding.

"After the wedding ceremony, we had our reception at Greenhill Hotel [in Wigton] where we were welcomed into the function room start off the speeches. Unfortunately, on the way to the reception from the church, my parents had a flat which made them slightly late!

"Our favourite moment of the day was seeing our two boys and our flower girls in their suit and dresses. We also put together a bride and bridesmaid vs groom and groomsman dance battle which we only rehearsed a week before the wedding."

Their first dance was to Jason Miraz's song 'I Won’t Give Up On Us'.

"All during the night, the dance floor was not empty, we partied until the music stopped and we had LED flashing glasses and glowsticks for the rave party," she added.

"Not only did we have a great day, but our guests were amazing and made our day that bit more perfect."

The couple plan to have a few weekend breaks and take their kids to Lapland for their honeymoon.
