AN EDEN Valley pensioner has appeared before a court charged with historic child sex offences against a school age girl.
Dennis Elwood, 76, who has yet to formally enter any pleas to the four allegations he is facing, has been charged with the following offences, all relating to one girl:
- An indecent assault on a girl under the age of 16.
- An indecent assault on the same child on no less than 10 occasions.
- An indecent assault on a woman.
- And an indecent assault on a child aged 13 or 14.
Magistrates sitting at Carlisle’s Rickergate court told the defendant, who lives at Great Salkeld, near Penrith, that his case will be sent to the city’s crown court for a formal plea hearing on October 10.
He was granted bail until that day.
The defendant spoke only to confirm his personal details and to say that he would not be entering pleas during the hearing. He was represented by defence lawyer Chris Toms.
