This weekend saw the 3rd annual Cumbria Charity Convoy and Gathering take place at Clifton Dykes near Penrith.

The event, which has been extended to 2 days this year includes the charity convoy, truck and tractor show, tractor pulling, live music, food and drink and many other activities for all ages.

News and Star: A vintage tractor leading the convoyA vintage tractor leading the convoy (Image: Paul Grindley)The event is raised money for the Great North Air Ambulance and the Cancer Care Unit at the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle, the is added poignancy as this years event is being held in memory of Stuart Hastings of S.J. & S. Hastings and Jake Wilkinson of WPS Ltd who have both sadly passed away recently and who have been great friends and supporters of the event since the beginning.

The charity convoy left the showground at Clifton Dykes at around 10am on Saturday morning and travelled via Cliburn, Temple Sowerby, Langwathby and Plumpton before returning to the show ground via Penrith town centre.

News and Star: Classic lorries were also in attendanceClassic lorries were also in attendance (Image: Paul Grindley)At around 12.15pm on Saturday lunchtime, a small crowd of people gathered in Penrith town centre and were joined by shoppers going about their business who stopped to look as firstly a convoy of around 50 tractors, ranging from the newest models to vintage classics passed through the town all blowing their horns, they were followed by a procession of more than 40 lorries, again all blowing their horns, air horns,
Turkish Whistles and in one case an Air horn which played the Baby Shark tune.

The trucks had come from far and wide, with many being local but there were also trucks from as far afield as Ireland, local haulier Frank Buckle had 4 trucks in the convoy, 3 new modern ones and 1 classic ERF from days gone, also on a similar theme, AW Jenkinson had their C reg Scania 112m, which was the first truck the firm bought and it was followed by a brand new 73 reg Scania 460R, which can be no more than
9 days old as the 73 reg only came into being on the September 1.
