Time is running out to sign-up for a new Lake District event which gives people the chance to climb one of the county’s most popular summits.

Stars to Sunrise is the latest fundraising event being hosted by Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice, to help gather the vital funds it needs to continue offering compassionate care to people with life-limiting illnesses.

The event will see participants climb the 931-metre Skiddaw on Sunday, September 17, with the aim of reaching the top for sunrise around 6am.

Stars to Sunrise is being held in conjunction with Lakeland Mountain Guides and the walk will be fully guided by their experts making it accessible for most physically fit walkers.

The deadline to sign-up is Wednesday, September 13.

Eleanor Viney, the hospice’s fundraising manager, said: “Time is running out to sign up so make sure not to miss out on this unique opportunity and raise some crucial funds for your local hospice in the process. Climbing a mountain at night is a fantastic experience, and being able to get to the top and to enjoy an amazing sunrise too is simply unforgettable.

“It costs around £5 million a year to ensure that the hospice can continue be there for local families and fundraising events such as Stars to Sunrise play a big role in helping raise the vital funds needed.”

Participants’ fundraising will help care for children like Jack Powell who is supported by Jigsaw.

Jack was born with several life-threatening conditions, including a hole in his heart, long segmented tracheal stenosis and severe left bronchial malacia, conditions which cause breathing difficulties and a defect with an artery in his heart.

Clare, Jack’s mum said: “There’s so much to do around Jigsaw for Jack and they know if he needs mum and dad then that’s OK. When he stays over, they couldn’t do any more for him, they treat him like a little prince."

Registration for Stars to Sunrise will be £35 per person and the hospice asks for a minimum sponsorship of £100 so it can continue providing compassionate care to the local community.
