WITH one of the world's biggest sporting tournaments starting this weekend, we have pulled a list together of some of the pubs in north Cumbria which will be showing the games.

The Rugby World Cup 2023 will be hosted by France this year from Friday, with many Cumbrian pubs showing a whole host of matches throughout the tournament.

20 nations battle it out in 48 matches across 51 days, to be crowned Rugby World Champions.

Here are a list of our top picks to get you ready for this year's World Cup:

1) Walkabout, Carlisle 

Walkabout have said they will have 'every bone crunching tackle, exhilarating try and last minute drop goal live and loud on the big screens'.

2) The Turf, Carlisle 

The Turf say they provide 'live sports with an unbeatable pub atmosphere' as well as some great food and drinks deals.

3) Brewdog, Carlisle 

The Carlisle pub will be showing all the home nations matches throughout the World Cup. They said 'it's time to pick a side, and cheer on your team'.

4) The Beehive, Carlisle
One of the city's most popular sports bars will be showing the games (dependant on clashes with football fixtures), with a beer garden outside for a couple of pints in the sun before the matches.

5) The Castle Bar, Cockermouth

With plenty local ales on offer, the Castle Bar will be showing World Cup matches from Friday.

6) The Fletcher Christian Inn, Cockermouth

With 'all the best live sporting action' the pub will be showing fixtures throughout the tournament.

7) Bees Knees, Workington

One of the newest sports bars in the town, the tournament will be shown in the bar throughout.

8) Whittington Cat, Whitehaven 

Saying they love the 'hustle and bustle of game day', the Whittington Cat will be showing matches during the tournament.

9) Queen's Hotel, St Bees

The hotel in St Bees will be showing coverage of the rugby. You can tuck into some food from their menu whilst watching...

10) Sunnyhill Pub, Whitehaven

With and outdoor beer garden and food served at the pub it's an ideal place to watch all the action.
