A NEW pollinating garden aimed at attracting nature into a Workington Park has been officially opened by the town mayor.

The ‘Bee Happy’ garden was officially opened in Vulcan Park last Wednesday, August 23 by the mayor of Workington Beth Dixon, Mayoress Amy and some other little helpers.

The garden was created with funding from Cumbria County Council (now the Cumberland Authority) and planted last year, with the town council also using recycled materials from their estate to create the area.

The space is a pollinating garden aiming to provide a home for bees and other wildlife, there are hedgehogs houses and bug hotels alongside much more.

In a post on social media, Workington Town Council said: “We then all had a great time bug hunting and insect finding.

"Huge thanks to Cumbria Wildlife Trust for hosting the activities for us.”

The garden is in Vulcan Park, Workington and can be accessed by the public through the Princess Street entrance next to the Workington Town Council offices.
