Carlisle is set to host its Come Racing and Carlisle Youth Zone meetings as the racecourse rounds off its August fixtures.

Day one of the meeting gets underway at 2.45pm today.

A six race card starts with a seven-furlong sprint for amateur jockeys on board four-year-old horses.

Precedent will be hoping his previous form won’t be setting exactly that as he looks to shed his maiden tag here having shaped well when second at Hamilton two starts ago.

Chief opposition looks set to come from War Defender, who has three wins on the all-weather track but is a consistent sort on turn too, placing in his last two starts.

The second race on the card is a novice stakes worth nearly £6,000 to the winner.

Alaskan Gold, a £200,000 colt out of Kodiac, looks the one to beat having finished third in a much stronger Goodwood maiden two weeks ago. Go Big Or Go Home is a half sister to superstar sprinter Battaash and should improve from her last run here as well.

Race three is a 13-runner handicap over a five-furlong dash and Thankuappreciate will be aiming to get rid of his slow starting habit and get his neck over the line first here having hit the frame in five of his seven starts as a three-year-old.

The fast-improving Rock Of England will be a major threat for the Ed Bethell yard with jockey Danny Tudhope on board.

The fourth race of the afternoon at 4.15pm is a nursery event over 6f and Star Of Lazise will aim to back up a win at Newcastle last time out but does have a 4lb rise in the weights to overcome.

Quintus Maximus moves into handicap racing for the first time and is certainly in with a shout, while Happy Helen, beaten by Quintus Maximus last time out, also holds strong claims.

The penultimate race on the card sees the in form Patontheback go for a second win in three starts, having scored at Newcastle earlier this month and finishing second at musselburgh last time out. Carlton And Co was also a winner at Newcastle at the start of the month and holds claims here.

The Thursday card is rounded off with a ten-runner handicap over an extended mile at 5.20pm.

The unexposed Run Simba should be well in the frame here having finished a strong second at Ayr a fortnight ago and wears visors for the first time here. Where’s Jeff is a previous course winner  and also scored at Hamilton earlier this season, while Highwaygrey steps down in grade having been winless in eleven starts.

Friday then sees the Carlisle Youth Zone raceday with racing under way at 1.30pm with the last race at 4.30pm.

All the races are shown live on Racing TV.
