A SUCCESSFUL dog-walker hopes to transform a children’s nursery into a day care centre for dogs.

An application has been lodged with Cumberland Council to change the nursery building at Ennerdale Mill in Egremont into a doggy day care centre.

The plans have been put forward by Hannah Eldon, who runs the dog walking business, Let’s Go Walkies, currently based in Cleator Moor.

A covering letter submitted with the application says: “This will be a great asset to Egremont town centre. I currently own a successful dog walking business and often get asked if I can accommodate dogs for the day.

“This has been a struggle as it reduces the number of dogs I can collect for walking.

“This is where my idea of a doggy day care centre came into my mind. I feel this will benefit so many residents.”

The plans go on to say that the day care centre will comprise an indoor day care room, allowing dogs to socialise, rest and be cared for.

It will include sand pits, ball pools, a paddling pool, mini trampolines and other toys to engage dogs throughout the day, along with rest areas with dog beds and sofas. There will also be an outdoor area with agility aids.

The doggy day care centre will initially hold a maximum of 10 dogs per day. The proposed opening hours will initially be 7.30am until 4.30pm Monday to Friday.

In the plans, Ms Eldon says in time, she would like to expand the business and possibly open on Saturdays, which would allow her to branch out into dog birthday parties.

She also hopes to employ more staff as the business expands.
