A MAN will be sentenced at the crown court next month for sexually touching a teenager.

Paul Henderson, 55, pleaded guilty to engaging in non-penetrative sexual activity with a teenager when he appeared at Workington Magistrates’ Court last month.

The case was adjourned to allow a pre-sentence report to be prepared by the probation service.

Henderson, of Firth View Walk, Workington, was due to be sentenced at Workington Magistrates’ Court today but the case was sent to Carlisle Crown Court for sentence after magistrates read the contents of the pre-sentence report.

Presiding magistrate, Christopher Drouet, said: “We have read that grooming was admitted, that there is an abuse of trust. This was not the first incident of this sort.”

Mr Drouet said the penalties for the offence ranged from a high level community order to three years in prison.

Henderson will be sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court on September 22.

He was granted bail on the on the condition that he does not have any unsupervised contact with anyone under the age of 18 save as is inadvertent in the course of day to day life and that he lives and sleeps each night at an address in Workington.

Henderson continues to be subject to interim notification requirements as a registered sex offender.
