Bull, directed by Paul Andrew Williams, is a 2021 film that masterfully delves into the dark and brooding world of revenge. Neil Maskell delivers a riveting performance as Bull, a man who mysteriously returns home after a decade-long absence to settle scores with those who once betrayed him.

This gritty kitchen sink revenge film showcases excellent performances from a cast of recognizable British actors, including Tamzin Outhwaite and David Hayman as the vile antagonist Norm.

Each character adds depth and complexity, intensifying the tension and suspense throughout the film. Neil Maskell's portrayal of Bull is exceptional, embodying an avenging demon back from hell.

His chilling intensity and unwavering determination captivate the audience, as Bull seeks revenge on those who wronged him in his past life. Bull's narrative, at times, takes on the essence of an urban western, immersing viewers in desolate landscapes and morally ambiguous characters.

This unique blend of genres adds intrigue and freshness to the film, making it stand out. Unapologetically bleak, Bull explores the depths of human nature and the consequences of past actions.

The film unfolds with a slight sense of madness that escalates to a brutal conclusion, leaving a lasting impact.

Bull is a gripping and intense revenge film that skillfully combines gritty realism, exceptional performances, and a touch of urban western. It's a must-see for fans of the genre and those seeking a compelling and Dark experience.

News and Star: They Cloned Tyrone They Cloned Tyrone (Image: Carlisle Cult Cinema Club)

"They Cloned Tyrone," directed by Juel Taylor and starring John Boyega as drug dealer Fontaine and Jamie Foxx as pimp Slick Charles, is a pulpy, sci-fi mystery caper that delivers in every way.

The film effortlessly combines elements of Blaxploitation, sci-fi conspiracy, and the urban gang films of the 90s, resulting in a cracker of a movie that keeps you engaged from start to finish.

One of the standout features of "They Cloned Tyrone" is its unmistakable Blaxploitation vibe, which pays homage to the iconic films of the genre. The great funky score perfectly complements the film's gritty atmosphere, immersing you in the world of Fontaine, Slick Charles, and Yo-Yo as they embark on their investigation.

The soundtrack alone is worth the price of admission, adding an extra layer to the overall experience. The chemistry between the three leads is simply fantastic. John Boyega's portrayal of Fontaine, a neighborhood drug dealer, is cracking. Jamie Foxx's performance as Slick Charles brings a charismatic and larger-than-life presence to the screen.

Together with the talented cast, they create a dynamic and entertaining trio that keeps you hooked as they banter with each other while uncovering the truth behind the eerie events.

Moreover, the film tackles important themes, including racial oppression and institutional control. Through the revelation that Fontaine is an artificial clone controlled by powerful white overlords, the character experiences a range of emotions, from despair to determination.

His decision to stand up against these institutional forces for the sake of his neighborhood adds depth and relevance to the storyline. "They Cloned Tyrone" is a must-watch film that successfully blends Blaxploitation, sci-fi conspiracy, and urban gang film elements into a fantastic watch.

With its great funky score, excellent chemistry between the leads, and a plot that keeps you guessing, this movie is a true gem that will leave you thoroughly entertained and ideal for that weekend film night.

DEEP RISING (1998)

News and Star: Deep Rising Deep Rising (Image: Carlisle Cult Cinema Club)

Full Scream Ahead!!! Deep Rising, written and directed by Stephen Sommers, an entertaining and Action Packed journey into the depths of the ocean.

Starring Treat Williams and Femeke Janssen in the lead roles, both actors deliver brilliant performances from start to finish. From the moment the ruthless hijackers invade the world's most luxurious cruise ship to the mysterious disappearance of the passengers, Deep Rising keeps you guessing and on the edge of your seat.

As the film progresses, a terrifying force from the unexplored depths of the ocean begins to prey on the intruders, snatching them away one by one, building tension and suspense.

One of the aspects of the film i liked is Kevin J. O'Connor's portrayal of the comedy relief character, Joey. O'Connor brings a refreshing and humorous energy to the story, adding a touch of levity to the action that’s going on around him.

It's worth noting that O'Connor has appeared in several of the director's other works, consistently delivering memorable performances in similar roles. While Deep Rising boasts a mixture of practical effects and early CGI, it must be acknowledged that some of the CGI may not have aged as well as expected.

However, this minor setback doesn't detract from the overall enjoyment of the film. Deep Rising remains a great example of a fun, old-school creature feature that is packed with action.

The supporting cast in Deep Rising is Cracking, with actors such as Jason Flemyng, Cliff Curtis, and Djimon Hounsou portraying villains and Creature Fodder, enhancing the thrill factor and keeping audiences on the edge of their seats as they get picked off one by one.

Deep Rising is a highly enjoyable and action-packed adventure that harkens back to the days of classic creature features. With its fast-paced storyline and thrilling action set pieces, the film never fails to entertain.

Despite some minor flaws, the performances, particularly by Treat Williams and Femeke Janssen, elevate the movie and make it a must-watch especially as the nights start to get Darker.

Directed by Mike Mort and featuring the voice talents of Jennifer Saunders and Paul Whitehouse, is a brilliantly animated comedic take on action and horror films from the 80s.

If you have fond memories of growing up in the 80s, devouring Hollywood action films and cult horror from the VHS era, then this film is an absolute treat that will transport you back to that nostalgic era.

From the mind of Mike Mort, known for his work on "Gog's" (1995-2000), comes "Chuck Steel: Night of the Trampires," a fantastically twisted and unabashedly un-PC homage to the films that I rented from countless video shops here in Carlisle.

The movie is packed with references and homages to a wide range of iconic films, adding to the fun and providing a delightful challenge for viewers to spot them all. Every minute of this film is a love letter to the cult movies of yesteryear, and I adored every second of it.

This is a must-watch for any cult movie fan. The animated action-comedy-horror genre blend is executed with skill and creativity, creating a unique and entertaining experience. The animation itself is top-notch, capturing the essence of the 80s aesthetic and flawlessly bringing the characters and settings to life.

The voice talents of Jennifer Saunders and Paul Whitehouse further enhance the film, adding depth and humor to their respective roles. For those interested in watching "Chuck Steel: Night of the Trampires," it is available to rent or buy on Amazon Prime Video. Additionally, the Blu-ray release offers a fantastic package that any cult movie fan would appreciate.

The Blu-ray includes a double-sided poster, a little booklet, and a host of brilliant extras, including the prequel film "Chuck Steel: Raging Balls of Steel Justice" and a superb director's commentary from Mike Mort himself.

On top of that, there is even a music video from Saxon, adding to the overall value and enjoyment of the package. "Chuck Steel: Night of the Trampires" is a must-see film that pays homage to the action and horror films of the 80s.

With its fantastic animation, clever references, and talented voice cast, it captures the spirit of the era and delivers a thoroughly entertaining and nostalgic experience. Whether you're a fan of cult movies or simply enjoy a good blend of action and comedy, this film is sure to delight.
