CARLISLE'S popular I Love Cafe’s new premises opened in the city centre on Tuesday, July 11 so I went down to check it out.
Charlotte Birkett took over the original I Love Cafe in Kinmont Arcade before lockdown, alongside her mother Kerry Birkett.
With an ever-growing popularity amongst Carlisle folk, the duo had been looking to expand to a larger premises and the former cafe unit made the ‘perfect spot’.
Charlotte and her partner Adam Parker, who has worked as a restaurant manager across Cumbria, are running the business day to day, but mum Kerry and auntie Hannah Blacklock's homemade cakes are very much part of the family atmosphere at the café.
The cafe offers a whole range of sweet and savoury treats including full breakfast, brunch and lunch options alongside the café’s renowned handmade cakes.
I arrived at the cafe at around 11am on July 11 and was immediately welcomed into the café and shown to a table.
The cafe was full to the rafters of customers with a nice mixture of couples, workers and families all providing a great atmosphere in the room.
Despite the place being packed out, I was served quickly, and my order of a black coffee and a Kinder Bueno brownie arrived within a few minutes.
The coffee was excellent, and the brownie was amongst the best I’ve ever had. Beautifully moist and incredibly tasty – a must try for all who visit.

The inside of the café has also been finished to an incredibly high standard and looks great. The slightly quirky décor and designs work really well with the friendly, family feel of the place and help to create the welcoming nature of the cafe.
I Love Cafe was already a firm favourite for Carlisle residents and with their new premises the family run business can go from strength to strength.
