With summer holidays fast approaching many of us will be looking for great ways to spend some quality time with the family.

One of the venues at the top of your list should be Muncaster Castle, which is worth a visit for so many reasons – not least because of its idyllic setting in the wonderful Western Lake District fells.
Why not go back to nature and try out wild glamping in the gardens of the castle? Tucked away in a quiet corner of the 77-acre gardens you can enjoy a night under the stars in Muncaster’s canvas bell tents.
The glamping experience lets you enjoy the simpler things in life as you unwind and relax around your campfire and take in the natural beauty around you.
There’s solar powered lighting and outside you have your own fire pit and a picnic table.
Along with the joy of glamping, Muncaster also has much to explore apart from the historic castle itself. Wander the beautiful tranquil gardens and peaceful woodlands. Marvel at the displays at the Hawk and Owl Centre. Let the kids tire themselves out in the adventure play areas before heading to Muncaster’s cafés for refreshments.

News and Star: Glamping at Muncaster
There’s a busy summer of events lined up at Muncaster too including a chance to enjoy some outdoor theatre. On Wednesday, July 19 the Three Inch Fools troupe returns with their calamitous take on Robin Hood. The following day, Thursday, July 20, they take on Shakespeare’s chaotic comedy As You Like It.
Looking further ahead into the summer, this year marks the 10th anniversary of “Race the Tide” where runners of all levels are challenged to a unique 10km obstacle race over a great adventure weekend (August 11-13). The race route follows wild and natural features around Muncaster where you crawl through mud, wade through rivers, tackle obstacles, and scramble to the top of wooded hillsides. It all starts and finishes in the beautiful gardens of the historic castle and ends with a celebratory dinner and ceilidh. It also involves a full weekend of activities and accommodation at Muncaster's campsite, or indoor rooms for the perfect staycation.
And returning for a third year is the Krankenhaus Micro-Festival – a music festival like no other where visitors get to enjoy all the usual Muncaster attractions during the morning and early afternoon and then top class live music and DJ sets from late afternoon long into the evening. The festival, organised by award winning local band Sea Power and Muncaster, runs from August 25-27.
So, whether you want to wander sumptuous state rooms in the castle, try glamping under the stars, or fancy hearing some brilliant live music – Muncaster Castle has something for everyone.
