Here in Cumbria we truly are blessed with some of the most wonderful countryside that our country has to offer.

And what better way to relax after a nice country walk than relaxing with a nice cold beer and a hearty meal in one of our county's many country pubs?

There are so many to choose from it was very hard for us to pick just a few for us to recommend.

If you've not visited any of these places before then they are definitely worth a try.

Let us know which are your favourite village pubs in the comments and which you'd suggest visiting for our other readers.

First on our list is The Lowther Arms in Mawbray which is described as a traditional country pub in the heart of the Mawbray village.

It is in close proximity to the coast and is located close to the Solway Plain in northwest Cumbria.

Another place that is well worth visiting for a pint is the Bush Inn at Tallentire. On whatpub.com it states: "A good old-fashioned pub that often serves at least one ale from a Cumbrian brewery.

"The hub of the community, home of the cricket team and hosts traditional music session on the last Wednesday of the month.

"With its exposed beams, stone floor, and wood burning stove, the pub also has an exterior sensitive to the character of the village."

The Last Man Inn at Plumbland is also highly recommended. WhatPub explains that it is a quiet pub with real ale available and also lunchtime and evening meals.

The pub is dog and family-friendly, there is also a garden and a real fire inside.

The Manor at St Bee's is next on our list. On their website they state: "We are a small, developing family of individual Country Inns, combining exceptional food and hospitality with great value.

"At Country Village Inns we want to give our country pubs back to their communities. We aim to make our pubs the social hub, employ local people, source local produce, and raise the profile of the village."

Last but not least is The Shepherd's Arms Hotel at Ennerdale which serves a range of real ales and top quality locally sourced food. There is also an expansive beer garden to the rear overlooking a river.
