Residents and businesses in Cumbria are invited to take part in a day to combat air pollution.
This is as part of Clean Air Day, which happened yesterday (June 15), and Cumberland Council has subsequently shared ways to enhance air quality via its social media channels.
Residents and businesses are asked to help share messages, make their own Clean Air Day pledge, and use a personal air pollution calculator to understand how to reduce their air impact.
Some tips include turning off your car engine when stationary, consider an electric vehicle, walk or cycle to school, and the ventilate your property by opening windows or using extractor fans while cooking.
Some other tips include using fragrance-free, milder cleaning products, and to only burn dry materials.
Cllr Bob Kelly, Cumberland Council’s executive member for climate change policy, said: “We already have plenty to be proud of when it comes to air quality in Cumberland, with our region enjoying some of the best rankings nationally.
“However, it is incredibly important that we keep up the efforts to improve our air quality, and work hard towards ensuring that the air we breathe remains as clean as possible for the health of our residents and the planet.”
