Our readers have responded to a west Cumbrian beach being rated one of the best in the UK.

Experts at Conde Nast Traveller "searched high and low to bring you our expert pick of the best UK beaches", and deemed one in Cumbria worthy.

The beach in question, St. Bees Beach, was ranked 27th on their list.

Facing heavy competition from Cornwall to Scotland, St. Bees was given high praise indeed.

Patrice Olivia said: "In England yes but not in the UK, the highlands of Scotland have far nicer beaches."

Alison Fyfe said: "Always, St Bees has been that way for years glad they keep it beautiful."

Dave Beston said: "I've been to St Bees but my favourite is Arisaig in Scotland."

Brad Ley said: "None of the west coasts is nice unless you're in Cornwall or Scotland.

"95% of the beaches have been ruined by too much tourism and have become very busy."

Linda Bradley said: "Sorry I don’t agree the beaches in Northumberland are the best."

The beach has a vast expanse of red sand which is exposed except for about 2 hours on either side of high tide.

The Main Beach has a long concrete promenade with level access from two large car parks.
