Inspectors gave Valley Wok a five hygiene rating after previously telling the Chinese takeaway to make major improvements.

The outlet at 104 Valley Road in Portslade received an overall hygiene rating of 1 after the inspection on April 26, meaning major improvement was necessary.

However, inspectors have now given the food outlet a five rating, the highest possible, after revisiting the premises following a number of improvements.

In the April 26 inspection, the hygienic handling of food, which can include preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling, and storage, was found to be in need of improvement.

Furthermore, the cleanliness and condition of the facilities, which can include appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities, and pest control were also needing improvement.

Food hygiene ratings are crucial in ensuring the safety and quality of food establishments in the United Kingdom.

In the UK, food hygiene ratings are determined through rigorous inspections conducted by local authorities.

Trained food safety officers visit establishments unannounced, evaluating various aspects such as food handling, cleanliness, and management practices.

These ratings hold significant importance for consumers as they enable individuals to make informed decisions when choosing where to dine, ensuring they select establishments that adhere to high standards of hygiene.

A higher rating indicates that the establishment has demonstrated excellent practices in areas such as food preparation, storage, and cleanliness, reducing the risk of foodborne illnesses and promoting public health.
