CARLISLE United’s victory in the League Two play-offs will live long in the memory of many Cumbrians, particularly the 14,880 who attended the showpiece at Wembley Stadium.

To 89-year-old Jean McAdam, Sunday, May 28 was extra special.

In the summer of 2021 Jean thought she had attended her final Carlisle United fixture and feared that she could no longer make it to Brunton Park due to ongoing knee pain; giving up her season ticket as a result.

Having held a season ticket over several decades, Carlisle United had formed a huge part of Jean’s life after she began following the Blues in her teens.

However, in September 2021, to alleviate the pain Jean went underwent surgery as she received a half-knee replacement.

She said: "It no longer hurts or harms me; it gave me my independence back."

During the pandemic, Jean lost confidence and felt unable to attend Brunton Park, and as a result, also lost contact with those she used to sit with, but kept up with United’s results via iFollow.

Due to the enormity of the match, Jean managed to embark on last Sunday’s Wembley trip, a remarkable feat.

Jean’s family knew of her dedication, making it their priority to see her at Wembley.

Jean’s daughter, Louise Johnson said, "Once we knew Carlisle qualified, we knew we had to take her there. She’s a diehard fan."

The 89-year-old was delighted to be back seeing her beloved team in person after the game she shared how she will look to return to Bunton Park as the Blues return to League One

She said: "It was wonderful, I could punch my fist in the air, I was so excited about it all. It was a wonderful time.

"I’ll have to look to see if I can get a seat.

"I’m going to have to follow up with the box office to see if I can get my old seat back. I’ve had a marvelous time watching them.
