A CARLISLE teenager is to be sentenced by a Carlisle Crown Court judge after he admitted downloading indecent child images.
At the city’s Rickergate court, 18-year-old Nathan Brown pleaded guilty to three offences, relating to indecent child images of Category A, B and C. In law, Category A images are deemed the most serious kind.
The court heard that Brown's offending involved two Category A images, 17 Category B images, and 53 Category C images.
According to court documents, the defendant began committing the offences in May 2018, when he was a 13-year-old. It ended on November 24 last year, the court heard.
No further details were revealed.
Prosecutor Lee Dacre told magistrates that because Category A images were involved in the offending the case was too serious for the magistrates' court and should be sent to Carlisle Crown Court for sentencing.
Defence lawyer Jeff Smith said that there would need to be a background report prepared by the Probation Service on the defendant, a young man who has no previous convictions of any kind.
Magistrates ordered those reports and sent the case to the crown court for a hearing on June 5.
In the meantime, Brown, of Hillary Grove, Carlisle, who spoke only to confirm his details and enter his pleas, was granted unconditional bail.
