The family of a man who tragically died following a collision on the A684 M6 fly-over bridge have paid tribute.

Officers were called at around 1.20pm on Tuesday, May 2, to the collision involving a green Peugeot 308 and a black Smart Forfour.

A passenger in the Peugeot, William ‘Willie’ McCormick, 80, of Warwick Close, Spennymoor was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.

In tribute his family said: “Willie was a warm and generous man, loved by his family and friends. He is going to be missed so much"

The driver of the green Peugeot 308, a man in his 80s was taken to Preston hospital with serious injuries.

A woman in her 80s, a passenger in the Peugeot, was taken to Preston Hospital with a chest injury.

A fourth passenger, a man in his 70s, was taken to Preston Hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the Smart, a man in his 70s, was taken to Preston with minor injuries.

A passenger in the Smart, was taken to Lancaster hospital with serious injuries.

Officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or has relevant dashcam footage to get in touch.
