Finding the right home insurance policy can be difficult, doing your research into the benefits of each policy is important.

Accidental damage to your furniture is almost always covered by your home insurance, however, home insurance experts at confused.com reveal that damage caused by a pet is often not.

According to data from Confused.com, searches for “accidental pet damage insurance” are up by 180% in the last year.

While this suggests damage from pets within the home is becoming more frequent, it raises the question of what type of policy covers this type of accidental damage.

Jessica Willock, Confused.com home insurance expert. “Future and current pet owners should be aware that regular accidental home insurance policies (home or buildings) will not usually cover damage from pets.

"In fact, it’s advised that if you have a pet that might damage furniture, you should look into a more bespoke policy. It should be noted however this can be more costly, something new pet owners should take into consideration.”
