IN this week's edition of nostalgia, we have decided to take a closer look at Lochnivar school in Longtown,

As we enter the last term of the school year and gear up for the summer holidays, we’ve been looking through our archives for photos of Lochinvar School.

The school served the town and surrounding area with a school capacity of around 320. The secondary school took pupils aged between 11 and 16, before they head off to sixth form or college.

Mr Alan Smith was the latest head teacher at the school before it closed on August 31 in 2008 amid much local opposition.

Our photographers were on hand to record many happy occasions at the school including their annual Christmas shows. Do you recognise anyone from the performances of A Christmas Carol in 1979, or in the school nativities or dancing competitions.

Other photos show pupils taking part in a charity car wash at the school, and pupils from Lochinvar school before they left on a trip to France.

The other pictures show the Lochinvar School, Longtown, swimming team in 1974, as well as pupils receving the school's new minibus.

The school was recognised as a centre for Young Enterprise in 2002.
