THE Northern Lights made a spectacular display over Cumbria last night.

People around the county have been snapping pics as the Aurora Borealis shone across the clear nighttime skies.

And thanks to members from our Camera Club, we've got a great selection on show.

Thanks to Mark Hetherington who caught a great shot as the natural wonder brightened the West Cumbrian coastline, all to a picturesque backdrop of the Whitehaven Lighthouse.

"I could not quite believe my eyes when the Aurora popped," Mr Hetherington said on social media.

Camera Club member, Adrian Strand, also caught a beauty of the Whitehaven evening sky at around 11pm.

And Daz Bell also caught a great snap of the skies over Carlisle, despite the light pollution.

If you missed it however, don't worry, the Aurora Borealis is expected to be seen again at around 8pm tonight (April 24), however, it will not be 'as strong as last night'.

Good, dark and clear nights are the best conditions to spot the display in the sky.

News and Star:

A spokesperson from the MET Office said it is not 'uncommon' to see the Aurora in Cumbria, with sightings spotted as far south as Cornwall last night.

"There is another chance to see it again tonight, though it is not likely to be as strong.

"There is less in the way of cloud tonight though which will help sightings.

News and Star:

"As it is not expected to be as strong as last night, it is less likely to be seen as far south and it’ll be important to be away from any light sources to get the sky as dark as possible to increase your chances of seeing anything," they said.
