MEET the Carlisle-based art restoration firm that is the leading expert when it comes to repairing and bringing back to life all Banksy murals as well as prints.

Fine Art Restoration Company specialises in restoring precious artworks, sculptures, and even furniture - all from a studio in Kingmoor Park.

Lead art historian Danielle Burke said: "We're pretty much always working on a Banksy in some shape or form.

"We're the leading experts on the restoration of Banksy murals and work from paper.

"It's usually quite secretive as you can imagine, but we generally have Banksy paintings coming in and out quite regularly," she said.

Of the famous street artist's work to be restored from the firm includes the famous 'Snorting Copper' and the mural of a gun-toting monkey in a tutu alongside a framed Mona Lisa to name a small few.

But it's not just the fixing-up of UK projects for the art conservationists.

"We actually have a painting in at the moment which was affected by a hurricane in Florida.

"They come from all over, this one is quite exciting as you can see the moisture damage - it looks white at the moment. After the artists are finished with it, it should be back to how it was before.

"It really depends on the type of treatment it needs but we usually say it takes around six to eight weeks to restore a painting fully - some are far more damaged than others," she said.

And with 20 people involved on the site, it's a job that the artists take great pride in restoring people's cherished possessions.

"It's like being in the Real Repair Shop.

"Lots of things we deal with have sentimental value rather than monetary. We have high-value items but the majority are things that mean a lot to people.

"In terms of the scale of what we do, we don't just do artwork, it's furniture and sculptures - there are not too many places where you can have both sets of objects restored from your house in one place.

"Most people wouldn't know we are in Carlisle - we're a bit hidden up over in Kingmoor. We do allow people to come and visit as long as they message in advance and have a project in mind they would like restoration on," Danielle said.
