IN this week's edition of nostalgia, we are looking at the Bassenthwaite regatta.

The Bassenthwaite regatta week organised by Bassenthwaite Sailing Club attarcts hundred each year, whether you are a spectator or a sailor, there is something for everyone.

Bassenthwaite Sailing Club's annual regatta week, offers sailing in a family environment and in a setting of unrivalled natural beauty.  Bass Week is a family regatta that ranks amongst the most popular open events in the North of England.

The Club site offers launching, beaching and camping facilities and a Clubhouse which commands views across the Lake.  Social functions are arranged each day (for those sailors with spare energy) ranging from a quiz to discos and live entertainment etc, including a full programme of events for children.

Racing is organised for several different fleets over the weekend as they compete on the water.

Racing is organised daily with short series being held over each weekend and on the Wednesday; other races are stand alone and include two pursuits.  Friday afternoon is taken over by junior, ladies and over 60s racing.

The week included dozens of on-site caterers providing a range of meals and snacks throughout the day, as well as a bar for the off-the-water pursuits.

Many of the photos in this collection are from the schools regatta hosted by Bassenthwaite Sailing Club in 1972. However, we have included some more modern ones to show how the event has developed.

On this occasion in 72', young sailors from Nelson Thomlinson School in Wigton, the White House Grammar School, Brampton, and Wyndham School, Egremont (now the West Lakes Academy) were put through their paces.
