TWO youngsters have raised almost £2,500 for a west Cumbrian amateur boxing club after a month-long fundraising challenge.

Heidi Huck and Jack Dickinson, both aged six, have completed challenges to raise money for the Egremont Amateur Boxing Club which opened its doors for the first-time last year.

Heidi has run a mile everyday throughout March whilst Jack has walked the combined distance from Workington to Egremont which is around 13 miles.

On Friday, March 31 Heidi and Jack were joined by about 40 friends, family and boxing club members to complete their final mile after a month of fundraising.

The club joined them to run from Thornhill down into Egremont to the boxing club, taking just over 15 minutes.News and Star: Members of the club joining Heidi and Jack on the final mileMembers of the club joining Heidi and Jack on the final mile (Image: EABC) They were then greeted by more friends and family who had gathered to cheer everyone in.

A spokesperson for the club said that they "would like to say a huge thank you to both Heidi and Jack for their efforts and we presented them each with a commemorative trophy on Saturday.

“We’d also like to say thank you to everyone who turned out to support on the day and for Saturday’s raffle, as well as Frasers of Egremont for doing a buffet for Saturday.”

News and Star: Heidi joined the club shortly after it opened and has been a regular attendee.

Her parents, Callum and Laura, said: “The boxing club has become a massive part of Heidi’s life these last few months, and she absolutely loves spending time there.

“With help from all the fantastic coaches (Alan Toole, Mally Caton, Dick Newton and Ryan Kyles) she has become more confident as a person and is absolutely invested in getting fit and practising her boxing at every opportunity.”

Jack joined at a similar time and has also become a regular in classes and has been described as an ‘asset’ to the club.

The club had to relocate at the beginning of the year due to structural issues in their original base of the Egremont Market Hall and need to raise funds for more equipment and to kit out their new home of the town’s Conservative club.
