A TENANT who pushed over an oven in a 'fit of rage' has been convicted of criminal damage.

Julie Thompson, 63, was under the influence of alcohol when she caused £500 worth of damage to the cooker at her home address on Harrington Road, Workington.

Prosecutor Lee Dacre told Workington Magistrates’ Court that the offence took place in the property, owned by Home Group, on March 15.

Thompson pushed over the oven which had been smashed and was damaged beyond repair.

A statement from a member of staff at Home Group said the defendant told her she had done it “in a fit of rage”.

Mr Dacre said Thompson had 44 offences on her record and her last conviction was in May 2022 for criminal damage.

John Cooper, defending, said: “She is on a community order at the moment. She is quite a vulnerable adult. It’s supported flats in Workington.

“She has got an alcohol problem. She has been drinking and lost her temper. She has turned the cooker over. When it’s fallen, the glass has smashed.”

Thompson, of Harrington Road, Workington, pleaded guilty to criminal damage to property under £5,000.

Magistrates revoked the defendant’s current community order and imposed a new 18-month order with 20 rehabilitation activity requirement days.

Thompson was fined £80 and must pay £500 in compensation to Home Group. No order was made for costs due to the defendant’s limited means.
