A Cumbrian food hall has been named as a finalist in a coveted national award.

The Cranston’s food hall in Brampton has reached the final step in the Butcher’s Shop of the Year awards 2023.

Food hall manager Mark Mallinson said: “The whole team are thrilled to be named as a finalist by the Butcher’s Shop of the Year judges.

“We are really proud of the work we do bringing a huge range of expertly produced Cumbrian food and drink to the people of Brampton.

“It’s lovely to see everyone’s hard work recognised with this great news.”

It opened in 2015 when Cranston’s acquired the former HSBC bank and was able to move across the street from their original little shop on Front Street.

The 2000-square-foot food hall offers customers a range of butchery, delicatessen and takeaway food plus produce from over 100 Cumbrian suppliers.

The Butcher's Shop Awards said it looks to honour and celebrate quality, commitment and achievement in the UK butchery industry, finding the best of the best in six regions spanning the UK as well as rewarding innovation, quality displays, online retail, and trainee butchers.

Cranston’s is up against Roast Mutton, of Kendal, Mainsgill Farm Shop, of Richmond, and Lishman’s, of Ilkley.

A mystery shopping visit will take place between March 27 and April 17, and the winner will be announced at a networking awards lunch on May 22 in Birmingham at the Bierkeller.

Brampton and Carlisle food hall manager Mark Mallinson and assistant manager Steven Davidson will attend the awards.
