Cumbrian goalkeeper James Trafford kept a clean sheet on his latest outing for England Under-21s in an emphatic win over France.

The Greysouthen player helped keep the French at bay in the first half before England cut loose in the second half to win 4-0.

Trafford produced impressive saves from Rayan Cherki and Kouadio Kone in the goalless first half at Leicester City's King Power Stadium.

And he ensured England would thwart France for the full game as second-half goals from Arsenal's Emile Smith-Rowe, Chelsea's Noni Madueke, Liverpool's Curtis Jones and Aston Villa's Jacob Ramsey sealed victory.

Trafford, who is on loan with Bolton Wanderers from Manchester City, got the nod by Under-21 boss Lee Carsley to start the game.

He was preferred to other keepers Josh Griffiths, Anthony Patterson and Carl Rushworth.

The outing further cements 20-year-old Trafford's reputation as one of the top young keepers in the country.

The former Carlisle United academy youngster and his team-mates now move on to Tuesday's clash with Croatia at Fulham's Craven Cottage.

Trafford's fellow Cumbrian, defender Jarrad Branthwaite, was initially named in the Under-21 squad but had to withdraw because of injury.
