WORK is to begin on bringing a new community hub for Aspatria.

The new hub will bring together Aspatira's library and children’s centre under one roof in a fit-for-purpose, modernised building.

Works are set to commence on Monday, March 27 and aims to be completed come autumn.

A temporary library service is currently being provided from the children’s centre on Kings Street.

The new hub hopes to create a fresh and modern library space, providing access to a wide range of library services and a fantastic new children’s library.

The project also comprises an excellent new children’s centre for young people and their carers, with a light and airy playroom, a ‘messy play’ area, and a great new enclosed outdoor play area.

The hub will also create a new facility for partner organisations through a multipurpose room providing a refurbished shared space for the delivery of Adult Learning courses, Health and Wellbeing sessions and much more.

This project has been supported by Cumbria County Council Allerdale Local Committee.

Roland Hill will carry out the works.

A Cumbria County Council spokesperson said: "The new Community Hub will create a fantastic new asset for the families of Aspatria.

"The modernised library will provide the perfect place to enjoy everything the service offers, from books to PCs and more.

"The new Children’s Centre will be a wonderful place for young people and their carers to visit, and access to the Children’s Library and resources it provides will be of huge value to them," they said.
