A PARISH councillor has called on a construction company to fix a pot hole filled road, which residents have branded 'a right rotten state'.

Parish councillor Sean Reed said that 'residents are disgusted' at the vast number of potholes on Cumwhinton Drive, with greater concerns as the council approved 157 extra homes on the site.

The road is private, with assurances made to residents when Taylor Wimpey was granted planning permission almost a year ago that repairs would be done, following which the council would maintain the road.

The councillor said that the community has been getting 'passed from pillar to post' with promises made by the construction company to bring the road up to standard.

“We’ve been getting passed from pillar to post and we just want to highlight this again," he said.

“We have got 180 houses there all paying council tax served off a private road that is falling apart, so you can imagine they're not happy.

“They have left site and it’s not on their radar really. They said they would do the works in a month or so which was about now, but it still hasn’t happened.

“People should come and have a look and see how bad this is.

“Residents are disgusted, if they had've known about this when they bought the properties then they wouldn’t have bought them, and it’s not just residents, there’s a local bus that goes to Centre Parcs and it’s all the people who are visiting the Carleton Clinic as well.

“We hope it will get done but at the moment it’s in a right rotten state.

“We want the Section 38 to be completed and Taylor Wimpey to do the works without delay, they have had all of the money from the 189 at The Coppice."

The councillor says there is light at the end of the tunnel however, with the new Cumberland council set to take ownership of the road after works are completed, which residents think will avoid many problems that have been faced in previous years.

A Taylor Wimpey spokesperson said: “Taylor Wimpey has been working closely with Cumbria County Council over the past year in an attempt to bring these offsite roads up to adoptable standards but we understand the concern of residents.

“Work was tendered over a year ago but we were asked to revise the specifications. In the interim period some temporary work has also been undertaken.

“The final specification for the works has now been agreed and is currently out to tender.

"We would like to reassure residents that we are now working hard to determine a start date in order to begin the work as soon as possible and appoint a contractor in the coming weeks.”
