For this Nostalgia edition we will be taking a look at what life was like in our area in 1990.

Over three decades have passed since this time and things are quite a bit different here in Cumbria.

But just like today there was a great deal happening in the world. This was a time when Nelson Mandela was released from prison in South Africa and becomes the leader of the ANC, East and West Germany were reunited after the collapse of the Soviet Union and one of the most completed T. Rex fossils is found in South Dakota and it is named "Sue" after the paleontologist that discovered it.

This was also a time when the Internet became available for unrestricted commercial use, Euro Disney was opened in France and Intel introduced the Pentium Microprocessor.

But what was happening here in Cumbria? Here at the News & Star we've searched through our archives to find some truly fantastic photos from this year.

If you feature in any of these photos or know the people who do then please get in touch, we'd love to hear from you.

Now we hope that you enjoy this blast from the past just as much as we have.

We can see the BSL vintage delivery van in 1990, the Red Cross presenting nebulisers to the children's ward at the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle and the Pensioners Rights Campaign poll tax protest at Carlisle's Civic Centre, the Border Regiment Association Band on Remembrance Day and the four 1990 candidates for Cornetship.

The final photos show Doug Law with a sand sculpture of Jimmy Dyer at a family fun day in Carlisle, Barn Close Day Centre, Carlisle: knitting jumpers for Romania, Brampton Players performing Midsummer Nights Dream and the Cub Scouts from Inglewood District enjoying their fun evening.
