GETTING the most from the land is the holy grail of farming today which is why British agricultural implement manufacturer Grange Machinery is so focused on keeping soil disturbance to a minimum. Their range of products – the most commonly-used ones being the Grass Land Loosener (GLL), Low Disturbance Loosener (LDL), Strip Till Preparator (ST-P) and the recently-launched Close Coupled Toolbar (CCT) –are specifically designed to protect farmers’ number one asset, their soil.
Indeed, Grange’s focus is on the five principles of soil health, namely limiting disturbance, protecting soil from the elements, promoting diversity to help with water infiltration and carbon capture, maintain living roots and livestock integration through mixed farming practices. 3M GRASS LAND LOOSENER (GLL)
One of the main items Lloyd Ltd have in stock is the 3m Grass Land Loosener (GLL), which is designed to alleviate compaction in the soil, shattering the profile and removing the plough pan to improve drainage and allow air into the soil whilst carefully managing minimal damage to the valuable sward. The GLL is built with Grange’s low disturbance legs and points, which provide a full width lift with minimal surface disturbance. The front cutting disc enhances the loosening element of the leg and eliminates the surface tension, thus reducing any opportunity of soil boiling in front of the leg along with easing the flow of trash through the machine.
The main frame is lifted and lowered into work on the tractor link arms. The front discs are hydraulically operated to provide a good range of cutting depth according to surface conditions and to aid trash flow and to provide minimal disturbance. The packer is easily adjusted on a pin system and can simply be detached by removing two bolts.
These machines are very popular with Direct Drilling customers who want to lift and loosen the soil structure without disturbing the surface and creating another pass prior to drilling. The machine offers the versatility in loosening at full width with a packer of choice to enable a level weather-proof finish. There are also options for either shear bolt or hydraulic reset protection, toothed ring packer or shoulder press ring packer roller, and seeder mounting brackets with seeding outlet pipes and bracketry. Grange’s products can be fitted to any tractor and are compatible with a wide range of implements, from combi drills to power harrows.
4M CENTRAL FOLDING LOW DISTURBANCE LOOSENER (LDL)
Designed from carefully listening to farmers who are Direct Drilling or practising Min-Till and are experiencing compaction at depths of 6"- 10", Grange’s Low Disturbance Loosener can be used to lift at full width at depths of up to 12". It is used primarily to loosen the soil structure straight after combining and removing the compaction pan. It has become apparent that farmers are now starting to experience poor crop establishment and growth due to the compaction generated from machinery traffic, rain fall etc, so the LDL offers the versatility in loosening at full width with a packer of choice to enable a level weather-proof finish for drilling at a later date. The central folding machine is available in 4m along with the wider working widths of 5m and 6m.
3M, 4M & 6M LOW-DISTURBANCE TOOLBAR (LDT)
The Low-Disturbance Toolbar will provide extra versatility with trailing implements when cultivating or drilling. Whether in use with a drill, cultivator or a press, the toolbar will become a unique and integral part of your establishment process. The 3m & 4m machine allows the user complete flexibility to use the machine with other trailing implements or to be used on its own. The option of having the legs in/out of the ground having no impact on the trailed towing height allows the machine to be very adaptable in its use. The 6m LDT machine has a number of unique features, including automatic folding of the wings during headland turns, which is done by activating one auxiliary service on the tractor hydraulics. This allows the operator to concentrate on the turn and leave the Grange Toolbar to fold on its own.
3M/4M/6M CLOSE COUPLED TOOLBAR (CCT)
Designed to be used in conjunction with mounted maize and sugar beet drills to become a strip till process for establishment, the CCT is a narrow toolbar allowing the implement to be very tight to the tractor. It can be used with both mounted and trailed machines and has PTO ready for combination of implements such as power harrows. This machine comes with CAT 3&4 hydraulic rear linkage with an option of an ‘A’ frame that enables the farmer to trail machines and still preserve the towing height by hydraulically floating the rear rams and having a pre-set upwards linkage height. This allows the machine tines to be fully out of work whilst still towing the rear implement at its desired towing height.
