A HISTORIC hotel in the centre of Carlisle is still on the market.

The Crown & Mitre, on English Street, is up for sale for £5.5m.

The Grade II listed hotel, listed by Christie & Co, has 91 ensuite bedrooms and six function suites.

The listing states that as of the year ending January 2020, revenue for the premises stood at £2.43m.

The hotel was built in 1905 on the original Crown and Mitre coffee house site, which by the end of the 18th Century, had become the main coaching inn for the city.

The original inn was demolished in 1902, giving way to the existing building, which took three years to build, and has hosted VIP guests, including President Woodrow Wilson.
