A WORKINGTON theatre was rocking last week as Workington Amateur Operatic Group took to the stage to perform a smash West End musical in the town.

WAOS took to the stage to perform the smash hit musical School of Rock:The Musical over a number of days last week from February, 15-18.

Based on the 2003 film School of Rock starring Jack Black, this family fun musical follows failed wannabe rock-God Dewey Finn posing as a substitute teacher at a respected prep school in order to get some much-needed cash.

There he learns of his students incredible musical talents and soon transforms straight A students into a face-shredding, mind-blowing rock band!

The group were the first ever amateur theatre group to perform the musical and have had support from one of the company owned by leading West End mogul Andrew Lloyd Webber.

A spokesman for the theatre group said: "We ended up having some sell out performances and were the first adult amateur production to put on School of Rock, the Andrew Lloyd Webber Show Licenscing were also really supportive and shared a lot of our posts on their social media last week"
