A WETHERAL cafe has been granted permission to build a new ice cream parlour.

The Posting Pot shared the news on it's Facebook post saying: "We have some exciting news!!!

"Planning has given the go ahead for us to build an ice cream Parlour at the back of our property.

"Work has already started with a well overdue jet wash done by Andy The Handyman! A great job and a big difference."

The village cafe also revealed the name of its upcoming ice cream parlour as "Tavi", name which relates to the name of the cafe building, Tavistock House.

Speaking after the approval of the plans for the ice cream parlour, The Posting Pot owner Paul Blythe explained why the cafe was getting into the ice cream business.

He said: "It will increase the seating capacity of the cafe, especially in the summer months.

"We have some tables on the front [of the cafe] which are very popular and round the back is also a bit of a sun trap."

Paul also detailed how encouraging community feedback pushed forward the plans for the new parlour.

He said: "We have put it around and people have been positive about it."

The new ice cream parlour is set for an official opening "next spring" with Paul doing the majority of the building work by himself.

However, he said that if all goes well, the ice cream parlour could be open as early as September.
